Japanese Switch 2 Priced Lower Than Global Version
The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch with different pricing strategies for Japan and the rest of the world. This innovative gaming console will come in two distinct versions, catering to different user preferences and regional needs.
Switch 2 Will Have 2 Language System Versions
In Japan, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be available in a Japanese-language system version, priced at approximately $330. This version is exclusively for sale within Japan and can only be linked to Nintendo Accounts set to the Japanese region. The language support is limited to Japanese, and the software available will be from the Japanese Nintendo eShop.
On the other hand, the Multi-Language System version, which will be available worldwide, is priced at $449.99. This version supports multiple languages and offers a broader selection of software from the global Nintendo eShop. The significant price difference, over $100, can be attributed to the weaker yen, which impacts pricing and discourages tourists from purchasing in Japan.
For those in Japan interested in using the Switch 2 with multiple languages, Nintendo recommends opting for the Multi-Language System version. Further details about this version will be unveiled on April 4.
Switch 2 Will Be Sold By Lottery At The My Nintendo Store
Securing a Nintendo Switch 2 will involve entering a lottery through the My Nintendo Store. Additionally, retailers and online shops across Japan will start accepting reservations or lottery entries from April 24, based on stock availability. To participate in the My Nintendo Store lottery, applicants must meet specific criteria:
- As of February 28, 2025, you must have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software (excluding demo and free software).
- At the time of application, you must have been subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online for a cumulative period of at least one year and remain an active subscriber.
More detailed information about the application process will be available on the My Nintendo Store starting April 4.
