Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Role in 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow': 'We Look Spot On'

Jason Momoa, renowned for his portrayal of Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to bring the character of Lobo to life in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter with superhuman strength and immortality, hails from the planet Czarnia. As the last survivor of his destroyed world, much like Superman, Lobo's origins are deeply rooted in comic lore, having been created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen and first appearing in Omega Men #3 in 1983.

Momoa has expressed his enthusiasm for taking on the role of Lobo, describing it as his favorite comic book character and highlighting the aesthetic similarities between himself and the character. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa shared his excitement and nerves about portraying Lobo, stating, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

When asked about Lobo's screen time in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Momoa clarified that while his appearance will be brief, it promises to be impactful. "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit," he said, suggesting that fans should expect a tantalizing glimpse of Lobo in the film.

In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, announcing the start of filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The film draws heavily from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, which follows the story of an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts will portray Krem, while Eve Ridley takes on the role of Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the second film in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman, set to premiere this summer. The DCU will continue with the Clayface movie scheduled for September 2026.
