Keanu Reeves Pitches Constantine 2 to DC Studios, Script Ready

by Chloe May 13,2025

Keanu Reeves has provided the most promising update yet on the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic film, Constantine. In the role of the occult detective and exorcist John Constantine, Reeves first brought the DC Comics character to life in the 2005 live-action adaptation. Despite the film's initial lukewarm reception, it has since garnered a dedicated following, fueling fans' demand for a sequel over the past two decades. Reeves himself has expressed a keen interest in reprising his role.

In a recent development, Reeves shared exciting news following a pitch meeting at DC Studios. Speaking to Inverse, he revealed, "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay.’ So, we're going to try and write a script." This marks a significant step forward for Constantine 2, signaling that the project is now ready to move into the scriptwriting phase.

While this update is encouraging, it's important to note that there's no assurance that Constantine 2 will receive the green light from DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The sequel is not currently listed as a confirmed project in the rebooted DCU, nor has it been publicly discussed by Gunn or Safran as a potential addition. Thus, the project remains on the cusp of realization.

Should Constantine 2 come to fruition, Reeves has teased that it will be set in the same universe as the original film. He humorously added, "We're not going off that. John Constantine's going to be tortured even more." This continuity ensures that fans of the original can expect a familiar yet deeper exploration of the character's world.

Adding to the anticipation, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura shared his own update with ComicBook. He mentioned that a script for Constantine 2 is already in his inbox, but he's hesitant to read it due to his high hopes for its quality. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane." This candid admission underscores the passion and dedication behind bringing Constantine 2 to life.
