Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has surged past 250,000 concurrent players on Steam, reaching a peak of 256,206 on February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra shared this milestone on X (formerly Twitter). The game has consistently shattered its own concurrent player records every day since its launch on February 4.

Reports suggest that KCD2 has sold approximately 890,000 copies on Steam. It currently ranks as the second top-selling game on Steam, trailing only Counter-Strike 2, and is the fifth most-played game, following CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana. With an initial launch of 1 million copies sold, the game is on track to reach 2 million units sold soon.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Attention To Detail

The game's opening weekend success can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing the immersion and enjoyment for players. Known for its commitment to realism, KCD2 builds on its predecessor's legacy by introducing new features that transport players to a 15th-century medieval world.

Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner highlighted a new stealth mechanic to GamesRadar, explaining that as players accumulate dirt and grime, they could acquire a debuff. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner noted, indicating that players would be broadcasting their presence.

The game also introduces "handgonnes," a type of early firearm, as discussed by Bittner with PC Gamer. These weapons, while historically accurate, are challenging to use, with long reload times and poor accuracy, often serving as a "meme weapon."

PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized the studio's goal of authenticity over hyperaccuracy, stating, "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double-check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible."

Post-Launch Roadmap

Warhorse Studios has outlined a post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged beyond the initial release. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC throughout 2025.

The free updates include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing, expected to launch in Spring 2025. Paid DLCs will follow in Summer with "Brushes with Death," Autumn with "Legacy of the Forge," and Winter with "Mysteria Ecclesiae."

Given its strong opening weekend performance, KCD2 is poised to maintain its commercial success with these updates and expansions, potentially setting new records along the way.
