Lunar: Remastered Date Unveiled

The highly anticipated Lunar Remastered Collection is set to launch on April 18th, bringing the classic JRPG duology to modern platforms. Developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, this collection will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC (with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S compatibility).

This remaster boasts updated visuals, a re-recorded soundtrack, and numerous quality-of-life improvements. Features include fully voiced dialogue in Japanese and English, with added French and German subtitles; a classic mode for purists; and enhanced gameplay mechanics such as faster combat and auto-battle options. These additions, now commonplace in JRPG remasters (similar to Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster), aim to modernize the experience while retaining the charm of the originals.

Physical copies will be available in select North American and European stores. The collection includes widescreen support, enhanced pixel art, and high-definition cutscenes. The announcement, made during a 2024 Sony State of Play, surprised and delighted long-time fans of the series, which originally debuted on the Sega CD in 1992. The success of this remaster remains to be seen, but the previous collaboration between Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment on the Grandia HD Collection suggests a positive outlook.
