Marvel Rivals Fans are Stretching Mister Fantastic's Meme Potential to Its Limit

Marvel Rivals fans have just experienced their first weekend with new playable characters, Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman. While the Invisible Woman has been well-received, some fans are struggling to take Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic, as seriously as the other heroes in the game.

Mister Fantastic made his debut with the launch of Season 1 on Friday, January 10, bringing his elastic abilities to the battlefield as one of Marvel Rivals' first post-launch heroes. As a Duelist, Reed's powers allow him to take long swings at one or multiple enemies at a time, and he can also expand his body to take on a more tank-like role. Players are still figuring out the best strategies to use Mister Fantastic against the rest of the roster, but until then, many can't help but focus on the humorous aspect of his character.

A character who can contort his body into strange shapes naturally carries a lot of meme potential. Comparisons to One Piece protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, for example, have been rampant, thanks to Mister Fantastic’s Elastic Strength ability. This comparison has gained so much traction that the modding community has already created a One Piece custom skin, despite NetEase's recent crackdown on modding. Turning into a rubber bodybuilder is funny on its own, but some fans, including X/Twitter user @BOOMERANG_117, have taken it a step further by imagining Marvel Rivals' Reed Richards without his new beard.

Perhaps the most humorous aspect of Mister Fantastic is his Reflexive Rubber ability. While it's a useful tool that can turn an enemy’s damage against them, its execution is hilariously silly. When using this move, Mister Fantastic grows to the size of a refrigerator, which is quite a sight to behold.
