How Doctor Doom 2099 Works in Marvel Snap
Doctor Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: "After each turn, add a DoomBot 2099 to a random location if you played (exactly) 1 card." These DoomBot 2099s (also 4-cost, 2-power) provide an ongoing +1 power buff to other DoomBots and Doctor Doom himself, including the standard version.
The strategy revolves around playing exactly one card per turn after summoning Doom 2099. This can generate 3 DoomBot 2099s, significantly boosting power. Early placement or using cards like Magik to extend the game further enhances this potential. Effectively, Doom 2099 can act as a 17-power card (or more!) under ideal circumstances.
However, there are drawbacks. DoomBot 2099 placement is random, potentially hindering your strategy. Furthermore, Enchantress (especially after its recent buff) completely negates the DoomBots' power boost.
Best Doctor Doom 2099 Decks in Marvel Snap
The one-card-per-turn requirement makes Doctor Doom 2099 a strong candidate for decks featuring ongoing effects. Consider these options:
Deck 1: Spectrum-focused Ongoing Deck
- Ant-Man
- Goose
- Psylocke
- Captain America
- Cosmo
- Electro
- Doctor Doom 2099
- Wong
- Klaw
- Doctor Doom
- Spectrum
- Onslaught
This budget-friendly deck (mostly Series 4 or lower) aims for early Doom 2099 placement using Psylocke or Electro. The deck offers flexibility, pivoting to a traditional Doctor Doom strategy if necessary. Cosmo counters Enchantress, protecting key cards.
Deck 2: Patriot-style Deck
- Ant-Man
- Zabu
- Dazzler
- Mister Sinister
- Patriot
- Brood
- Doctor Doom 2099
- Super Skrull
- Iron Lad
- Blue Marvel
- Doctor Doom
- Spectrum
Another cost-effective deck (primarily Series 4 or lower) that leverages the Patriot strategy. Mister Sinister and Brood set the early game, followed by Doctor Doom 2099 and powerful late-game cards. Zabu provides cost reduction for early game plays. Super Skrull provides a counter to other Doctor Doom 2099 decks. Note that this deck is vulnerable to Enchantress.
Is Doctor Doom 2099 Worth Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector’s Tokens?
While the other cards in the Spotlight Cache (Daken and Miek) are relatively weak, Doctor Doom 2099's power and deck-building versatility make him a worthwhile investment. Using Collector's Tokens is recommended if available. He's likely to become a meta-defining card unless nerfed.
