Who Are Marvel's New Avengers in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars?

by Adam Mar 18,2025

The MCU landscape has shifted dramatically since Avengers: Endgame. The Avengers team, as we knew it, is no more. While new heroes are emerging to fill the void left by Iron Man and Captain America, a proper Avengers movie remains on the horizon. Even Captain America: Brave New World doesn't fully reunite Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

It's not until Phase 6, with the back-to-back releases of Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), that we'll see the Avengers assemble again. But who will answer the call? Let's explore the likely candidates for Phase 6's Avengers roster.

Who Will Be the New Avengers in the MCU?

Wong

In the absence of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, Benedict Wong's Wong has become a pivotal figure, appearing in numerous post-Endgame projects, including Spider-Man: No Way Home, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. His comedic rapport with Madisynn (Patti Guggenheim) in She-Hulk further solidified his presence.

Having inherited the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme, Wong is actively defending the world. His role in uniting the Avengers in Phase 6 seems almost inevitable. We've arguably entered "Phase Wong" of the MCU.

Shang-Chi

Simu Liu's Shang-Chi is a strong contender for the new Avengers. His summoning by Wong in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, coupled with Destin Daniel Cretton's initial involvement with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (before directorial changes), suggests significant plans for Shang-Chi's future. His mastery of the Ten Rings makes him a valuable asset, and the mid-credits scene hints at a larger mystery that might intertwine with Avengers: Doomsday. Play

Doctor Strange

While Wong is Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen Strange remains crucial. His experience in magic and the multiverse makes him invaluable to the Avengers. His current involvement in another universe, assisting Clea (Charlize Theron) with the Incursion problem, suggests a future role in the Avengers' battle against Doctor Doom.

Captain America

Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson has taken up the shield. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Captain America: Brave New World showcase his journey. Brave New World positions him as a potential leader, though his struggles to live up to Steve Rogers' legacy will likely continue in Doomsday and Secret Wars. Play

War Machine

Don Cheadle's War Machine is evolving into a solo hero in the Multiverse Saga, as seen in the upcoming Armor Wars. His experience and firepower make him a natural fit for the Avengers, filling the void left by Iron Man.

Ironheart

Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams, introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is a strong contender to become the MCU's new Iron Man. Her intelligence and technological prowess will be essential against powerful villains like Doctor Doom.

Spider-Man

Tom Holland's Spider-Man remains a flagship hero, despite his decision to remain a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The world's amnesia regarding his identity presents a challenge, but possibilities remain for his inclusion, potentially through Wong's knowledge of his secret identity.

She-Hulk

While Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) may have a supporting role, Tatiana Maslany's She-Hulk is a strong contender. Her intelligence, strength, and personality make her an ideal addition to the Avengers. Play

The Marvels

Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan, introduced in The Marvels, are likely to play significant roles in Doomsday and Secret Wars. Captain Marvel is a potential leader, and the mysteries surrounding Monica and Kamala's paths suggest important contributions.

How Many Avengers Is Too Many?

The potential Avengers roster is expanding significantly. The possibility of a large team, mirroring the comic book model of multiple teams or smaller task forces, is feasible.

Hawkeye & Kate Bishop

Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop provide archery expertise. Renner's potential return and Kate's interaction with Kamala in The Marvels suggest their involvement.

Thor

Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is a potential veteran leader, and the ending of Thor: Love and Thunder positions him for action. The possibility of a Thor Corps in Secret Wars is also intriguing. Play

The Ant-Man Family

Paul Rudd's Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly's Wasp, and Kathryn Newton's Stature's connection to the Quantum Realm and Kang suggests continued importance in the Avengers' storylines. Play

Star-Lord

Chris Pratt's Star-Lord's return to Earth in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 suggests a potential role in the Avengers' storyline. Play

Black Panther

Letitia Wright's Shuri as the new Black Panther, along with M'Baku (Winston Duke), will likely continue Wakanda's support for the Avengers. Play
