Mass Effect 5 Graphics Won't Be Like Veilguard or Pixar
For fans of the Mass Effect series who have been concerned about the direction BioWare might take with the franchise's next installment, especially in light of the new stylistic approach seen in Dragon Age: Veilguard, the project director of Mass Effect 5 has provided reassuring updates.
Mass Effect's Next Game Will Remain Photorealistic and Mature
The upcoming game, tentatively known as "Mass Effect 5," will continue to embrace the mature and photorealistic tone established by the original Mass Effect trilogy. The trilogy, celebrated for its compelling storytelling and realistic visuals, has set a high standard for the series' narrative depth and visual quality. Casey Hudson, the trilogy's game director, emphasized the series' commitment to a "level of intensity and cinematic power."
As Dragon Age: Veilguard approaches its release on October 31, fans have expressed apprehension about the potential influence of Veilguard's Disney or Pixar-like visual style on the next Mass Effect game. Addressing these concerns, Michael Gamble, the project director and executive producer of Mass Effect 5, took to Twitter (X) to clarify the direction of the new game.
Gamble assured fans that Mass Effect 5 will not adopt Veilguard's stylistic choices. He stated, "Both are from the studio, but Mass Effect is Mass Effect. How you bring a Sci Fi RPG to life is different than other genres or IPs...and has to have different kinds of love." He further emphasized that "Mass Effect will maintain the mature tone of the original Trilogy. This is all I'm gonna say for now."
In his tweets, Gamble also expressed skepticism about the comparisons of Veilguard to Pixar's style, reinforcing his commitment to keeping Mass Effect photorealistic. While he did not share additional details about Mass Effect 5, fans can rest assured that the game will stay true to the series' established visual and thematic elements.
N7 Day 2024 Could Bring New Mass Effect 5 Trailer or Announcement
As N7 Day, also known as Mass Effect Day, approaches on November 7, anticipation is building among fans. Historically, BioWare has used this day to make significant announcements related to the Mass Effect series. In 2020, they unveiled the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, a remastered trilogy that delighted the community.
Last year's N7 Day featured a series of cryptic posts that hinted at Mass Effect 5's storyline, potential character returns, and the game's working title. These posts included a mysterious character wearing a full-face helmet and suit adorned with the N7 logo. The teasers culminated in a 34-second clip, but no further major updates have been released since.
Fans are hopeful that N7 Day 2024 will bring a new trailer or a significant announcement about Mass Effect 5, continuing the tradition of exciting reveals on this special day.
