MH Wilds Beta Test Extension Considered After Sudden PSN Outage

Monster Hunter Wilds is considering a 24-hour extension to its Open Beta Test 2 following a significant PlayStation Network outage this weekend. Let's dive into the details.

Monster Hunter Wilds Beta Test 2: Potential Extension

A 24-hour extension for Monster Hunter Wilds' Open Beta Test 2 is under consideration due to the PlayStation Network outage that lasted from 6 PM EST on February 7th to approximately 8 PM EST on February 8th. This outage rendered all online PlayStation games unplayable, including the MH Wilds beta.

While the exact timing of the extension hasn't been announced, it's intended to compensate for the lost playtime. The extension could be added to the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2, potentially extending it beyond the 27th, the day before the game's official release. Part 1 of Beta Test 2 has concluded, and Part 2 begins February 13th at 7 PM PT. Players can look forward to resuming their hunts and perhaps encountering the infamous low-poly bug.

The Hilariously Blocky Low-Poly Bug Returns

Capcom has acknowledged that the beta build is outdated and contains bugs, including the amusing low-poly character glitch. This glitch causes characters, Palicos, and monsters to appear as hilariously blocky, low-resolution versions of themselves. Instead of frustration, this bug has been embraced by fans, who are sharing their encounters on social media. While the MH Wilds team appreciates the humorous response, they encourage players to experience the game's full visual fidelity with appropriate hardware upon its official release.

Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in the acclaimed series, introduces an open-world setting called the Forbidden Lands. Players take on the role of a Hunter investigating this mysterious region and its apex predator, the White Wraith. This highly anticipated action-RPG launches on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 28th, 2025.

PlayStation Network's Significant Outage

PlayStation attributed the outage to an operational issue and apologized for the inconvenience. PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive five extra days of service as compensation. However, the lack of communication during the outage drew criticism from some fans, who expressed concerns echoing those from a similar, larger outage in 2011. That 2011 outage, caused by a hacker attack, resulted in a three-and-a-half-week service disruption and the compromise of approximately 77 million accounts. In contrast to the recent event, Sony provided more frequent updates and transparent communication during the 2011 outage.
