"Monopoly Movie Screenplay by Dungeons & Dragons Writers"

by Andrew May 06,2025

Lionsgate's upcoming adaptation of the iconic board game Monopoly has taken a significant step forward with the announcement that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have been tapped to write the screenplay. Known for their work on the successful film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Daley and Goldstein bring a wealth of experience to the project, having also penned scripts for notable films like The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Their recent directorial venture, Mayday, further showcases their versatility in storytelling.

The Monopoly film is set to be produced by Margot Robbie under her production banner, LuckyChap. This collaboration marks a fresh approach to bringing the beloved game to the big screen, following years of various attempts to adapt it. Notably, Ridley Scott showed interest in directing a Monopoly movie back in 2007, with Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski initially attached to write the script. However, that project did not materialize. Subsequent efforts in 2015 involved Lionsgate and Hasbro with Andrew Niccol as the writer, and in 2019, there were talks of Kevin Hart and director Tim Story being involved, but none of these plans came to fruition.

The current momentum for the Monopoly film stems from Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro, which has reignited efforts to finally bring this project to life. Fans of the classic game can look forward to seeing how Daley and Goldstein's creative vision will translate the world of Monopoly into an engaging cinematic experience. Hopefully, this version of the film will successfully "pass Go" and captivate audiences worldwide.
