How Big Is the Monster Hunter Wilds Day One Patch File Size?

Monster Hunter Wilds launched with a surprisingly hefty day-one patch, weighing in at a substantial 18GB. While the patch notes remain elusive, players are strongly encouraged to download this update for optimal performance.

The significant file size likely stems from the inclusion of high-resolution textures, noticeably absent from review copies. This addition significantly enhances the game's visual fidelity, accounting for the large download size. The patch, initially released for PlayStation 5, may also incorporate PS5 Pro enhancements, further boosting performance on that platform, as previously confirmed by Capcom.

Bug fixes are another likely component of this update. While extensive testing precedes launch, addressing remaining issues in a day-one patch is standard practice.

Though termed a "day-one" patch, pre-order players may access the download prior to the official release date. Those with slower internet connections are advised to install the patch well before February 28th to ensure a smooth launch experience.

It's important to note that this 1.000.020 update is primarily focused on performance and bug fixes; it's not expected to include any new content. Players anticipating additional content should look forward to the game's post-launch DLC. This includes three paid DLC packs, complemented by two free content updates. The first free update, arriving in spring, will introduce Mizutsune and event quests, with further additions, including new monsters and missions, planned for summer.

Monster Hunter Wilds releases on PC and consoles February 28th.
