MultiVersus Unveils New Additions Amid Fan Unrest
MultiVersus's story is a cautionary tale in game development, comparable to the infamous Concord debacle. Despite its impending closure, the game will conclude its run with the addition of two final characters: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.
This announcement follows considerable fan backlash, with some resorting to threats against the development team. Game director Tony Huynh responded with a public message, pleading with players to refrain from such behavior.
Huynh apologized for the unmet expectations of fans whose desired characters weren't included, expressing hope that they'll still find enjoyment in the final Season 5 content. He clarified that character selection is a complex process influenced by numerous factors, and his personal control over these decisions was less than some fans believed.
The shutdown announcement also sparked anger among players unable to spend their in-game tokens on the promised new characters—a perk for purchasers of the premium $100 edition. This unfulfilled promise may have contributed to the escalation of threats.
