Neil Druckmann: No Promises on The Last of Us Part 3

by Christopher Apr 11,2025

If you're a fan of The Last of Us eagerly awaiting news about a potential Part 3 video game, you might want to brace yourself for some disappointing news. Neil Druckmann, the series' creator, has poured cold water on any hopes for a Part 3 in a recent interview with Variety, which primarily focused on the The Last of Us TV series. When directly asked about the prospect of a Part 3, Druckmann's response was quite definitive:

“I was waiting for this question,” he said, sighing. “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”

PlayOf course, the question remains whether you believe Druckmann's statement. Currently, Naughty Dog is deeply engaged in developing *Intergalactic*, which was announced at The Game Awards last December. Given the absence of any release window for *Intergalactic*, it's clear that the studio's focus is firmly in space, leaving little room for *The Last of Us Part 3* in the near future. It's possible that Druckmann is being deliberately ambiguous or simply not ready to commit to a new project. Time could alter his stance, or he might truly be finished with the series. Only time will tell!

For fans still hungry for more The Last of Us, the television series offers a glimmer of hope. The second season is set to premiere on April 13 on Max. While Druckmann expressed uncertainty about how many seasons it would take to conclude the story of Part 2, an HBO executive hinted in February that four seasons might be the ideal number to fully explore the narrative.
