Netflix Cancels Stories, Playable Nonetheless

Netflix has made the surprising decision to close the chapter on its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, marking the end of a brief yet intriguing experiment in narrative gaming. Despite boasting a solid player base, the streaming giant has chosen to pull the plug on this venture. So, what led to the cancellation of Netflix Stories? Let's dive into the details!

As first reported by Variety, this move aligns with Netflix Games' broader strategic shift towards focusing on mobile titles. The new direction will emphasize party games, kids' games, mainstream releases, and more interactive experiences that can be enjoyed on TV screens.

Boss Fight Entertainment, the creative force behind the Netflix Stories series, will continue to collaborate with Netflix on other projects, including the eagerly awaited Squid Game: Unleashed.

Netflix Stories Gets Cancelled: What's Next?

Despite facing some criticism, Netflix Stories consistently held a strong position among the most-played titles on the Netflix Games platform. Recent data places it fourth in the Netflix Games top 10 carousel, which ranks games by playtime rather than downloads.

Looking ahead, the final interactive title in the Netflix Stories lineup will be Love Is Blind: NYC. Once its rollout concludes, no new games will be developed under this banner. This announcement comes on the heels of the Netflix Stories app teasing its next game, The Love Contract, slated for an April 8th release. Unlike its predecessors, The Love Contract was not based on any existing Netflix IP but was an original romance story featuring an actress navigating a love triangle with a Hollywood star and a billionaire amidst fame, scandal, and fake dating. Unfortunately, this game has been scrapped.

While the development of new Netflix Stories games has ceased, fans can still enjoy the existing titles. Games such as Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple remain playable. However, planned sequels for popular shows like Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have been cancelled.

That's the full story on the cancellation of Netflix Stories! If you're a fan of Netflix shows, you might want to check out the existing games on the Google Play Store.
