Netflix's "Squid Game" Unveils Season Two Enhancements

by Aaliyah Feb 14,2025

Squid Game: Unleashed is getting a major content update to coincide with the release of season two of the hit Netflix show. This update, launching January 3rd, includes new characters, a new map, and exciting challenges. Players can even earn exclusive in-game rewards by watching episodes of the new season!

Netflix's surprising decision to offer Squid Game: Unleashed for free to all players, subscribers and non-subscribers alike, before the holidays, has been a bold move. This new content drop, with its enticing rewards for watching the show, is a clever strategy to attract new players and engage existing ones.

For current players, the update introduces a new map inspired by the Mingle mini-game from Squid Game season two. Three new playable characters will also debut throughout January: Geum-Ja, Yong-Sik, and Thanos (the rapper).

Geum-Ja and Thanos will each have special in-game events on January 3rd and 9th respectively, providing ways to unlock them. Viewers of Squid Game season two can earn in-game Cash and Wild Tokens by watching episodes; watching seven episodes unlocks the exclusive Binni Binge-Watcher outfit!

Here's a breakdown of the January content:

  • January 3rd: The Mingle map launches alongside Geum-Ja. The Dalgona Mash Up Collection Event begins, challenging players to complete Mingle-inspired mini-games and collect Dalgona tins to unlock Geum-Ja. This event runs until January 9th.
  • January 9th: Thanos joins the game, with his own recruitment event, "Thanos’ Red Light Challenge." Players eliminate opponents using knives to earn this character. This event runs until January 14th.
  • January 16th: Yong-Sik arrives as the final character addition in this update.

Squid Game: Unleashed's free-to-play model and its innovative reward system for Netflix subscribers watching the show represent a significant shift in Netflix's gaming strategy. This approach cleverly intertwines the game with the show, potentially boosting both their popularity and engagement.
