Square Enix Announced NieR 15th Anniversary Special Novel

Square Enix marked NieR's 15th anniversary with a flurry of announcements during their livestream on April 19. A highlight was the introduction of the online special novel titled [U]ndecided Option. This novel will unfold over three updates, with the first already accessible, and the subsequent releases scheduled for April 25 and May 2. The story teases a mysterious narrative involving a servant and a boy with an enigmatic aura.

To complement this, Square Enix has launched a dedicated 15th Anniversary website, serving as the hub for the special novel and all related anniversary projects and events.

Exhibition, Concerts, Merchandise, and More

Square Enix is set to host an exhibition at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Japan, showcasing fresh artwork of protagonists from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation. Details on tickets and other logistics will be shared soon.

Music enthusiasts can look forward to additional performances at the NieR: Orchestra Concert 12024 in Osaka on July 25 and 26, and in Tokyo on August 2 and 3. Tickets are currently available through a lottery system, with more information on the concert's official website.

The merchandise lineup includes an album featuring newly recorded jazz arrangements from NieR: Dinner Show – Somethin’ or Other 12024, set for release in December 2024. Fans can also anticipate the NieR Weapon Story book, which boasts over 650 stories about weapons from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation, along with scale figures of the NieR series protagonists.

Re[in]carnation Developer Blog

Starting April 28, the first mobile title in the NieR series, NieR Re[in]carnation, will launch a developer blog series, releasing monthly updates throughout the year. This initiative aims to shed light on the creative process behind Re[in]carnation.

Originally launched in January 2021, the game was unfortunately discontinued in April 2024 due to monetization challenges. The announcement of the developer blog has sparked speculation among fans about potential sequels or remakes, although no official statements have been made yet.

The livestream concluded with an over 20-minute live performance, showcasing soundtracks from the entire NieR franchise. Square Enix promises more exciting updates and merchandise announcements for NieR fans in the near future.
