Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leak Rumors
Summary
- Nintendo has addressed the recent Switch 2 leaks from CES 2025, emphasizing that the circulating images are not official.
- The company highlighted its non-participation in CES 2025, making any Switch 2 imagery from the event unofficial.
Nintendo has broken its usual silence on product leaks by responding to the recent Switch 2 imagery that surfaced from CES 2025. The company firmly stated that these images are not official. This response, although stating the obvious, is a notable deviation from Nintendo's typical approach to leaks.
Since late 2024, leaks about the Switch 2 have been rampant, possibly due to the console entering mass production around that time. The latest instance involved accessory maker Genki, who displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Images of this dummy device quickly spread across social media platforms.
In response to an inquiry from the Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo clarified that the images and videos of Genki's Switch 2 replica are unofficial. The company also confirmed its absence from CES 2025, reinforcing that any Switch 2 imagery from the show cannot be considered official promotional material.
Official or Not, Genki's Nintendo Switch 2 Replica Could Be Accurate
While Nintendo did not comment on the accuracy of Genki's replica, it's possible that the dummy device closely resembles the upcoming console. This belief is supported by the consistency of the replica with other leaks and rumors. The replica appears slightly larger than the original Switch and features an additional button labeled "C," positioned below the right Joy-Con's home button. The function of this "C" button remains a mystery.
Genki's CEO, Eddie Tsai, did not provide any insight into the "C" button but shared other alleged details about the Switch 2. He claimed that the Joy-Cons will attach magnetically rather than using sliding rails and suggested that they could be used similarly to a mouse—a feature previously hinted at by other sources.
Nintendo has previously announced plans to reveal the Switch successor within its fiscal year 2024, ending on March 31, 2025. With only 80 days left, anticipation is building. The console is expected to launch no earlier than the second quarter of 2025, with rumors suggesting a retail price around $399.
