Nintendo Switch 2 Accessory Prices Rise, Fans React to Cost Increase
Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console, along with its accessories. While the base model's price remains steady, the cost of accessories has increased, prompting varied reactions from potential early adopters.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $449.99 for the standard version, and $499.99 for the bundle that includes the popular game, Mario Kart World. The kart racing title retains its standalone price of $79.99, while Donkey Kong Bananza is set at $69.99.
However, a notable shift has occurred in the pricing of the console's accessories. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the new costs:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
- Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
- Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
- Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
- Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99
In its announcement, Nintendo explained that the "price adjustments" for Switch 2 accessories stem from changes in market conditions since the initial pricing was announced on April 2. Most high-end accessories, such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera, saw a consistent $5 increase. The Switch 2 Dock Set, however, experienced a $10 hike, moving from $109.99 to $119.99.
The increased cost of the Joy-Con 2 Pair, now just $5 shy of $100, has raised eyebrows among fans and potential buyers, who are expressing surprise and concern over the expense.
Despite the pricing complaints, there is a silver lining for those upgrading from the original Switch. Nintendo's support site confirms that several Switch 1 accessories are compatible with the Switch 2. This includes the original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro Controller, which can be wirelessly paired, although the former cannot be directly attached. Additionally, legacy controllers like those for the Super Nintendo and N64 remain usable with compatible games.

Online discussions highlight the compatibility of Switch 1 accessories, with many users considering third-party options as well. While these alternatives may not offer all the features of the Switch 2 controllers, such as the C-button or the ability to wake the console, they present a cost-effective solution for some.
Nintendo has also cautioned that future price adjustments for any of its products could occur based on market conditions. This statement offers a glimmer of hope to those who find the current accessory prices steep, especially as existing Pro controller owners can continue using their devices with the Switch 2.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will begin on April 24, 2025, giving fans a chance to secure their console and decide on their accessory purchases based on the new pricing structure.
