Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Controllers Now Support Mouse Functions - Discover the Features

Ever since the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, fans have been buzzing with excitement over a tiny detail from the trailer: the Joy-Cons. Speculation was rife about their potential use as mouse controllers, similar to those on a PC, based on how they moved in the trailer. Now, we finally have official confirmation: the Joy-Cons can indeed operate in "mouse mode." This innovative feature allows players to slide the Joy-Cons across flat surfaces and use the analog sticks to simulate left-click and right-click actions, just like a standard mouse. What's more, two Joy-Cons can be used simultaneously in mouse mode, one in each hand, or one can be used in standard mode while the other operates in mouse mode. In essence, the possibilities for gameplay are endless.

The Nintendo stream showcased the capabilities of the Joy-Con in mouse mode through a sports game reminiscent of Rocket League, featuring robot characters in wheelchair-style vehicles. The game, titled Drag and Drive, is a thrilling three-on-three basketball game. To play, gamers must use two Joy-Con controllers in mouse mode to navigate their characters around the levels, aiming to score by sinking the ball into the basket.

Since the reveal trailer, fans have been theorizing about the Joy-Con's mouse-like functionality, fueled by the sight of Joy-Cons sliding around like PC mice. In an attempt to gather more information, we reached out to Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, but received a cryptic response. Features such as the mouse mode and the new C button have sparked extensive discussion about the console over the past month.
