Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay Due to Tariffs in Canada

by Caleb May 13,2025

Gamers were left reeling last week when the Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This change came after President Trump's import tariffs sent financial markets into a tailspin, and the ripple effects have crossed into Canada. Nintendo Canada has confirmed that pre-orders in the country are also delayed, dashing hopes of securing a console through relatives in Winnipeg.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada to Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged.

As the original pre-order date looms tomorrow, there's still no clarity on when eager fans can start their browser-refreshing marathon or prepare their credit card details, leaving gamers in a state of uncertainty and worried about potential price hikes beyond the initially announced $449.99.

Meanwhile, in the UK, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already gone live, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths selling out rapidly. Scalpers have jumped on eBay, offering pre-orders for £500 ($639) or more, significantly above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
