Nintendo Teases Next Pokémon Presents: Disappointment for Switch 2?

No Switch 2 Pokémon Announcements Expected at February 27th Pokémon Presents

Pokémon enthusiasts anticipating announcements regarding Switch 2 Pokémon titles during the upcoming Pokémon Presents on February 27th may be disappointed. While Pokémon games have consistently graced Nintendo consoles since their Game Boy debut, a Switch 2 presence for the franchise might take longer than anticipated.

Although Nintendo hasn't officially unveiled the Switch 2, its existence is confirmed. Backward compatibility with the original Switch, account carryover, and a reveal within the current fiscal year have been confirmed, but specifics remain shrouded in leaks. These leaks depict a more powerful, larger iteration of the original Switch.

While future Pokémon games are inevitable on the Switch 2, the February 27th Pokémon Presents will reportedly focus on titles developed for the original Switch. Thanks to backward compatibility, these games will also function on the new console. Industry insider Jeff Grubb corroborates this information.

Pokémon Presents: Focus on Existing Titles and Legends: Z-A

The upcoming Pokémon Presents will likely showcase updates for ongoing Pokémon titles like Pokémon GO and Pokémon Trading Card Game Live. Significant attention is expected to be given to Pokémon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch this year. While a teaser trailer revealed Lumiose City, returning Pokémon, and the return of Mega Evolutions, details remain scarce. Rumors suggest another main series Pokémon game is also planned for this year.

Speculation and Potential Releases

A new main series Pokémon game, separate from Legends: Z-A and Generation 10, is rumored for release this year. Potential candidates include Pokémon Black and White remakes or a new Let's Go installment. These, too, are reportedly destined for the original Switch, not the Switch 2, further suggesting that Generation 10 titles will likely be the first major Pokémon releases exclusive to the Switch 2.

This aligns with the Pokémon franchise's history of prioritizing older hardware with larger install bases. Similar to the release of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 for the original DS instead of the 3DS, history may repeat itself. However, until official confirmation arrives during the February 27th Pokémon Presents, this remains speculation.
