Nvidia RTX 5060 Launches: Consider Waiting Before Buying
Nvidia unveiled the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti back in April 2025, and now the more budget-friendly RTX 5060 is hitting the market, following its announcement at Computex. Priced starting at $299, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 packs 3,840 CUDA cores across 30 Streaming Multiprocessors, offering robust performance for 1080p gaming. Nvidia boasts that the RTX 5060 can achieve an impressive 223 fps in Doom: The Dark Ages at 1080p with max settings, albeit with 4x Multi-Frame Generation enabled.
The key feature Nvidia is highlighting with this new generation of GPUs is Multi-Frame Generation. Despite being the most affordable option, the RTX 5060 fully supports this technology along with the entire DLSS 4 suite. However, with only 30 SMs, there are limits to what DLSS can achieve. It's worth noting that while the starting price is $299, higher-priced models with additional features like factory-tuned overclocking and RGB lighting will also be available.
Reviews Are Coming... Later
Even though the RTX 5060 is positioned as a reasonably affordable card, it's wise to hold off on purchasing until performance reviews are available. Nvidia's performance claims are based on Multi-Frame Generation being enabled, and real-world performance remains to be seen. Unfortunately, reviews will be delayed as Nvidia has not provided an early driver to the press, so expect to wait about a week after the GPU's launch for comprehensive reviews.
The RTX 5060 is expected to be a solid choice for 1080p gaming, but the broader Blackwell lineup has faced challenges in showing significant generational improvements. Nvidia suggests the RTX 5060 could offer up to double the performance of the RTX 4060 with frame generation enabled, but only about a 20% increase in games without ray tracing or frame generation, which represents a best-case scenario.
As with any high-cost tech purchase, it's crucial to wait for independent reviews before making a decision, ensuring you get the best value for your money. Those reviews are on their way, but patience will be required.
