Mass Effect-Style RPG Osiris Reborn Features Romance

Owlcat Games has revealed The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a story-rich action RPG set within the acclaimed sci-fi TV series universe. While the studio built its reputation on isometric CRPGs like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, they're boldly venturing into Mass Effect-style territory with this ambitious new project.
A Familiar Universe Reimagined
The game combines third-person shooter mechanics with deep RPG systems - expect cover-based combat, class abilities, party management, and yes, romance options. Fans will recognize returning characters (with original actors reprising roles), though Owlcat remains tight-lipped about specifics.
Players assume control of a Pinkwater Security mercenary stranded aboard Eros Station during catastrophic system lockdowns. Your journey evolves from survivalist origins to commanding interstellar vessels across the solar system.
"We've dreamt of creating a sci-fi action RPG of this magnitude for years," shared Creative Director Alexander Mishulin. "The Expanse's grounded realism and political complexity make it ideal for our signature mature, choice-driven storytelling."
Mass Effect Meets Hard Sci-Fi
"The original Mass Effect trilogy deeply inspired our team," acknowledged Game Design Producer Yuliya Chernenko. "We're evolving that legacy with harder sci-fi foundations while maintaining the tactical squad combat and character depth that defined those classics."
The gameplay blends real-time tactical combat with RPG progression. Choose your captain's origin (Earther, Martian, or Belter), manage crew relationships, and deploy two active companions while others provide mission support - a clear nod to BioWare's formula.
Exploring Iconic Locations
- Ganymede's besieged colonies
- Ceres Station's sprawling infrastructure
- The military precision of Mars
- Luna's political power centers
Temporally positioned alongside early series events (seasons 1-2.5/book timeline), the narrative maintains The Expanse's hallmark political intrigue and moral ambiguity while introducing original storylines.
Currently in development for PC (Steam/Epic/GOG) and next-gen consoles, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn represents Owlcat's flagship project despite concurrent work on Warhammer 40K titles. The studio assures dedicated development resources guarantee quality across all projects.
