Osmos Returns to Google Play
Osmos, the acclaimed cell-absorbing puzzle game, returns to Android! Previously removed due to playability issues stemming from outdated porting technology, it's back with a completely revamped port from developer Hemisphere Games.
For those unfamiliar, Osmos is a unique, award-winning physics-based puzzle where players absorb smaller organisms while avoiding becoming prey themselves. Its simple yet engaging gameplay made it a hit upon its initial release in 2010. Now, for the first time in years, this classic experience is optimized for modern Android devices.
Hemisphere Games explains in a blog post that the original Android port, created with Apportable, became difficult to update after Apportable's closure. The game's subsequent removal from the Google Play Store was due to its incompatibility with current (64-bit) Android systems. This new release features a completely rebuilt port, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience.
A Cellular Masterpiece
If you need further convincing, watch the gameplay trailer above. Osmos' innovative mechanics have clearly influenced numerous subsequent games. Its late 2010s release, predating the explosion of social media, is almost a missed opportunity – it would undoubtedly be a viral sensation on TikTok today.
Osmos offers a nostalgic yet rewarding experience, a reminder of a time when mobile gaming seemed limitless. While it's a unique title, plenty of other excellent mobile puzzle games exist. Explore our list of the top 25 best puzzle games for iOS and Android for more brain-bending fun.
