Overwatch 2 Unveils Buffs for Reinhardt, Winston

Overwatch 2 is set to receive significant buffs for several classic heroes, including Reinhardt and Winston. Lead gameplay designer Alec Dawson recently confirmed these upcoming changes in an interview with content creator Spilo. While specifics are still under wraps, players can anticipate substantial improvements.

Dawson discussed his design philosophy, acknowledging past missteps in creating overly versatile heroes. The upcoming buffs aim to address the current struggles of Reinhardt and Winston in Overwatch 2's one-tank meta.

Here's a summary of the planned buffs:

Reinhardt:

  • A potential increase to 300 damage for his Charge ability, potentially one-shotting most non-tank heroes upon pinning.

Winston:

  • Reduced charge time for his Tesla Cannon alt-fire.
  • Unannounced improvements to his Primal Rage ultimate ability.

Both Reinhardt and Winston, original Overwatch tanks, have historically fluctuated between meta dominance and underperformance. These buffs aim to revitalize their effectiveness in the sequel.

While no firm release date was given, the buffs are expected to arrive within the next few weeks, possibly as part of a mid-season patch for Overwatch 2 Season 11.

The interview also touched upon other heroes: Mauga's Cardiac Overdrive is under review, and the upcoming Space Ranger Support hero was teased as a highly mobile character with a unique mechanic shared by only one other hero. Further details on these changes are anticipated soon.
