by Sarah May 14,2025

Paradox Interactive has officially unveiled its latest grand strategy game, Europa Universalis 5, following an intriguing tease last week. The renowned publisher, known for titles like Cities: Skylines, Crusader Kings, and Stellaris, introduced the game with a captivating cinematic trailer today. Developed by Paradox Tinto in Barcelona, Spain, the same team that has contributed to Europa Universalis 4 over recent years, the game does not yet have a release date, but an Europa Universalis 5 Steam page is already available.

"Challenge your strategic skills over 500 years of history, in Europa Universalis 5, the latest version of the celebrated grand strategy game," Paradox describes. "Master the arts of war, trade, diplomacy, and government in the largest and most detailed Europa Universalis game ever. Guide the destiny of any of hundreds of nations and societies in a simulated living world of unparalleled depth and complexity."

Having been in development for over five years, Europa Universalis 5 has been crafted with the dedicated Paradox fanbase in mind. The development team at Paradox Tinto has incorporated more than a year of public feedback, emphasizing the significant role the community's input has played in creating what they claim to be "the largest and most detailed Europa Universalis game ever made."

The game's campaign starts at the onset of the Hundred Years' War in 1337, guiding players through key historical events with a suite of new features. Among the highlights revealed today are a new, larger map utilizing accurate projection, and the inclusion of hundreds of different societies. A novel population-based system, along with enhanced production and trade systems, will allow players to develop their nation by constructing farms, plantations, and factories, or engaging in trade with neighboring regions.

These elements are designed to offer players the freedom to shape and manage their nation according to their vision, contributing to a strategy experience that's both ambitious and expansive. Although fans had already speculated about the project last week, the official reveal confirmed the anticipation surrounding this mysterious and ambitious endeavor from Paradox.
