PC Games That Play Better With A Controller

PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are surprisingly better with controllers. Reflex-based movement and fast-paced melee combat often lend themselves well to gamepad input. Similarly, franchises originating on consoles often maintain a controller-centric feel even in their PC ports.

While many PC game releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, certain titles are enhanced by the use of a controller. This is especially true for games prioritizing fast reflexes or close-quarters combat. Certain genres, particularly those with console origins, often feel more natural with a gamepad.

The end of 2024 saw several high-profile releases, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force. These titles generally perform better with keyboard and mouse. Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, however, might offer a slightly improved experience with a gamepad, although the difference is minimal.

Several upcoming PC games show promise for controller use:

  • Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port reminiscent of Monster Hunter, suggesting controller compatibility.
  • Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently benefits from gamepad controls.
  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Given the similar combat system to its predecessor, a controller is likely preferable.
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: As a PS5 port, a controller-first approach is anticipated, though keyboard and mouse should also function adequately.

A 2024 Soulslike game has also been included in this updated list. See the quick links below for details.
