DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans: Peacemaker Season 2 is set to premiere on Max on August 21. Gunn shared this announcement alongside a brief snippet of new footage, heightening anticipation for the return of the series.

In his tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the Season 2 premiere is “one of my favorite things ever.” The teaser footage features John Cena's character, Peacemaker, in action, including a memorable moment where he smirks at the camera with a fire blazing behind him. A voice in the clip declares, "Peacemaker is a superhero now."

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the beginning of Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU). It will be the third installment in this new cinematic universe, succeeding last year's Creature Commandos TV series and this summer's Superman film.

The revamped DCU, spearheaded by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, distances itself from the much-criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite the shift, some elements will carry over, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 will be integrated into the new DCU.

Gunn has emphasized that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though it's still uncertain which aspects will transition from the DCEU to the DCU. He has confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return with the original cast, including John Cena reprising his role as Peacemaker, alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Moreover, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's storyline directly impacting Peacemaker's journey. This interconnected narrative promises to enrich the viewing experience for fans of the DCU.
