Pokémon TCG: Paralyzed Condition Unveiled, All Cards with 'Paralyze' Ability Revealed

by Camila Dec 31,2024

This guide explores the Paralyze condition in Pokémon TCG Pocket, detailing its mechanics, cures, and potential deck-building strategies.

Quick Links

Pokémon TCG Pocket faithfully recreates the Paralyzed status effect from the physical card game. This condition prevents an opponent's Active Pokémon from attacking or retreating for a single turn. While the implementation has minor differences, the core gameplay impact remains consistent.

What is Paralyzed?

Paralyzed Status

The Paralyzed status renders an opponent's Active Pokémon immobile for one turn, preventing attacks and retreats. The effect automatically dissipates before the opponent's next turn begins.

Paralyzed vs. Asleep

Both Paralyzed and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyzed resolves automatically, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific card effects to cure.

Paralyzed in Pocket vs. Physical TCG

Unlike the physical TCG, Pocket currently lacks Trainer cards that specifically counter Paralysis. However, the core mechanic – preventing attacks and retreats for one turn – remains identical.

Which Cards Have the Paralyze Ability?

Pokémon with Paralyze

Currently, only three Genetic Apex cards inflict Paralysis: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each uses a coin flip, introducing an element of chance.

How to Cure Paralyzed?

Curing Paralysis

Four methods exist to remove the Paralyzed status:

  1. Time: The effect automatically ends at the start of your next turn.
  2. Evolution: Evolving the affected Pokémon instantly cures it.
  3. Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the status (as Bench Pokémon cannot have status conditions).
  4. Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers a targeted cure, but only for Weezing or Muk.

What Is the Best Paralyze Deck?

Paralyze Deck Example

Paralysis alone is not a robust deck archetype. Combining it with Asleep, however, offers synergy. An Articuno & Frosmoth deck, leveraging both conditions via Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex attacks, provides a viable strategy.

Sample Paralyze-Asleep Deck

Card Quantity
Wigglypuff ex 2
Jigglypuff 2
Snom 2
Frosmoth 2
Articuno 2
Misty 2
Sabrina 2
X Speed 2
Professor's Research 2
Poke Ball 2

This guide provides a foundational understanding of Paralysis in Pokémon TCG Pocket. Remember that the game's meta is constantly evolving, so adapt your strategies accordingly.
