Pokémon TCG Pocket Players Love and Hate Heartbreaking Time Space Showdown Art

by Hunter Feb 20,2025

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (PTCGO) Space Time Smackdown expansion, released January 30th, features a Weavile ex card depicting a scene that has sparked outrage among players. Specifically, the 2-Star full art card shows a group of Weavile poised to attack an unsuspecting Swinub.

This depiction of potential predation has generated considerable online discussion, with Reddit users expressing concern and dismay. One post highlighting the artwork garnered nearly 10,000 upvotes, with comments ranging from pleas for the Swinub's safety ("Leave the lil guy alone!") to observations about the often-brutal nature of the Pokémon ecosystem ("Always got to be one card per set that shows Pokémon in the process of straight up killing each other").

However, some fans offer a hopeful interpretation, pointing to the Mamoswine full art card, Swinub's evolution, which shows Mamoswine protectively looking upward, seemingly aware of the Weavile's presence. This has led to speculation that Mamoswine intervened, providing a "happy ending" to the depicted scenario.

Space Time Smackdown, a Diamond and Pearl-themed set, includes 207 cards (fewer than Genetic Apex's 286, but with a higher percentage of rare cards – 52 alternate art, Star, and Crown rarity cards compared to Genetic Apex's 60). The set features popular Pokémon like Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina.

Despite the controversy, Creatures Inc. has yet to publicly address the situation, remaining silent on social media and in response to inquiries. While a "Trade Feature Celebration Gift" (500 Trade Tokens and 120 Trade Hourglasses) was offered, the developer's lack of response to player concerns continues to fuel the discussion.
