Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet

No Plans For Competitive Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

At present, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join the Pokémon competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, mentioned that while they continuously evaluate different titles for inclusion, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate horizon.

Brown humorously referenced the company's April Fool’s parody trailer for the Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament, saying, "Pokemon Sleep is out there too." However, he clarified, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, though we’re always looking at things."

Too Early And Unbalanced

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

While no official reasons have been given for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having released only two sets in its first four months.

Although the app includes competitive features from the start, players have voiced concerns about ongoing balancing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket, being a simplified version of the original Pokémon card game, focuses on a more beginner-friendly experience rather than a competitive one.

Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to offer a variety of events for fans, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
