Pokémon TCG Pocket Update: Trading Feature Delayed Until Autumn

by Simon Mar 25,2025

The launch of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket was met with excitement, but the trading feature quickly became a point of contention. Initially, the system was criticized for its cumbersome Trading Tokens and restrictive trading policies. However, a recent update promises to overhaul this system, addressing many of the community's concerns.

The most significant change is the complete removal of Trading Tokens. Now, trading cards of three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star rarities will require Shinedust, a new currency you'll earn by opening booster packs and receiving cards already registered in your Card Dex. If you have existing Trading Tokens, you can convert them into Shinedust, which is a welcome move since Shinedust is also used to acquire flair. Additionally, future updates will introduce an in-game function allowing you to share cards you're interested in trading, enhancing the overall trading experience.

Trading Spaces

As I've mentioned before, the initial implementation of trading in Pokémon TCG Pocket felt half-hearted. The digital ecosystem inherently requires more stringent restrictions to prevent abuse, which can limit the fluidity of trading compared to real-life exchanges. While these changes are a step in the right direction, it's important to note that they won't be implemented until autumn, leaving players waiting through the spring and summer. This slow pace of addressing issues has left some fans feeling frustrated despite the acknowledgment of the problems by the development team.
