Ryan Reynolds Explains Deadpool's Standalone Status in MCU
Ryan Reynolds has cast doubt on the possibility of Deadpool joining either the Avengers or the X-Men, suggesting that such a move would signify the end of the character's journey. In a recent interview with Time, Reynolds stated, "If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we're at the end. That's wish fulfillment, and you can't give him that." This comes despite the speculation fueled by Deadpool's obsession with joining the Avengers in the successful film *Deadpool & Wolverine*, which led some to believe Marvel Studios might consider integrating the 'Merc with a Mouth' into next year's *Avengers: Doomsday*.
The cast reveal for *Avengers: Doomsday* last month was notable for its inclusion of veteran X-Men actors such as Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden. This has led to speculation about whether *Avengers: Doomsday* could be a covert *Avengers vs. X-Men* movie. Grammer, who played Beast in the Fox X-Men franchise, made his MCU debut in *The Marvels'* post-credits scene, while Stewart, known for his role as Charles Xavier/Professor X, appeared briefly in the MCU in *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*. McKellen, Cumming, Romijn, and Marsden, who played Magneto, Nightcrawler, Mystique, and Cyclops respectively, have yet to appear in the MCU.
Despite the excitement around the cast, Reynolds' name was absent from the list of confirmed stars for *Avengers: Doomsday*, although Channing Tatum, who portrayed Gambit in *Deadpool & Wolverine*, was included. Reynolds hinted that a surprise cameo as Deadpool might be more fitting, citing the positive reception to Wesley Snipes' cameo as Blade in *Deadpool & Wolverine*.
Looking ahead, Reynolds is currently working on a new project that he described as involving an "ensemble," though he remained tight-lipped about the details. He emphasized his preference for keeping Deadpool isolated, which could suggest another film filled with cameos similar to *Deadpool & Wolverine*. Potential characters for cameos include Snipes' Blade, Tatum's Gambit, Jennifer Garner's Elektra, and Dafne Keen's Laura Kinney/X-23.

As for *Avengers: Doomsday*, details beyond the cast list remain uncertain. Anthony Mackie, who will reprise his role as Sam Wilson/Captain America, expressed optimism about the film, stating it would "give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had." Other cast members like Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) and Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) have also shared their thoughts on the upcoming Marvel epic. Additionally, a leaked set photo from *Avengers: Doomsday* sparked intense speculation among fans, with some suggesting it could spell trouble for the X-Men.
There's also buzz about Oscar Isaac potentially appearing as Moon Knight in *Avengers: Doomsday*, fueled by his withdrawal from this month's Star Wars Celebration due to scheduling conflicts. Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige confirmed that the Avengers livestream did not include the entire cast of *Doomsday*, stating, "We revealed many, not all," during a video call at CinemaCon.
