Sadie Sink unaware of Jean Grey casting rumors

by Madison Oct 05,2026

Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Sadie Sink, known for her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, is joining Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4. According to Deadline, the actress—who debuted in 2016's biographical sports film Chuck—will appear in the upcoming MCU installment, which begins production this year and hits theaters on July 31, 2026.

Marvel and Sony declined to comment when approached by Deadline, though the outlet speculated Sink might portray X-Men’s Jean Grey or another iconic redheaded Spider-Man character.

IGN later explored potential Marvel roles for Sadie Sink in Spider-Man 4 and beyond.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Sink playfully dodged the Jean Grey rumors but called them "awesome."

"This is news to me," she said regarding the X-Men speculation.

When asked if she’d discussed the role with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, Sink replied, “No, I have nothing to say about this.” She then added, “But the rumors are really cool—it’s an awesome theory!”

Sink acknowledged familiarity with Jean Grey: “She’s a fantastic character, so it was fun to read about!” On potentially joining the MCU long-term, she remarked, “That sounds super exciting.”

The interview concluded with Sink tight-lipped, though Horowitz hinted at revisiting the topic once her MCU role is confirmed.

“Secret Wars will usher in a new era for the X-Men,” Feige said. “Having them back is a dream realized.”

Phase 6 films like Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man 4, and Secret Wars could feature mutants, alongside potential returns for Deadpool and Wolverine. Gambit’s comeback, originally played by Channing Tatum, remains a fan hope.

Feige confirmed the X-Men’s pivotal post-Secret Wars role: “Unlike Endgame, we’ve mapped out the future, and mutants are central to it.”

Storm’s debut in What If...? Season 3 may foreshadow broader mutant integration, with untitled 2028 Marvel slots likely reserved for X-Men projects.
