Silksong Rumors Reignite Over Cake
The excitement surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong reached new heights recently, fueled by fan speculation that the game would be announced for the Switch 2 during the Nintendo Direct on April 2. Dive into the details of this intriguing speculation!
Hollow Knight Fans’ Hope for Silksong Reignited
By a Twitter Post and a Piece of Cake
The fervor among Hollow Knight fans was reignited thanks to a series of enigmatic social media posts by one of the game's creators, William Pellen, around the time of the Switch 2 reveal on January 16, 2025.
On January 15, Pellen teased fans on Twitter (X) with a cryptic message: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This likely referred to the anticipated Switch 2 reveal the following day. Naturally, this sparked discussions about a potential Silksong release, but Pellen's next action intensified the speculation.
On January 16, 2025, coinciding with the Switch 2 announcement and the upcoming Direct scheduled for April 2, 2025, Pellen changed his profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed that the image was from a Bon Appetit article about the Brooklyn Blackout Cake, published on April 2, 2024.
Pellen's comment on the article, "mmmm tasty," further fueled the speculation. Fans dissected this move, with one daring to say, "if we get real silksong news by April 2nd 2025, I will bake this cake." Another fan, reviewing the cake, noted, "Loved the silky texture. This goes directly in my favourite recipes," cleverly linking the cake to the game and the Nintendo Direct.
It's important to note that there's no confirmation that Pellen himself commented on the cake recipe article. However, his profile picture change on Twitter (X) is undeniable, suggesting he might be hinting at something—although that something could be nothing at all.
Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago
Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced on February 14, 2019, intended for release on platforms including Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. This sequel to Hollow Knight follows Hornet's adventures in a new kingdom governed by silk and song.
In December 2019, Team Cherry offered fans a preview of Hollow Knight’s enchanting soundtrack, crafted by Christopher Larkin. Following this update, the development team went quiet for over two years.
The silence was broken in February 2022 when Pellen reassured fans that the game was still in development, promising updates as the release date approached. Later that year, in June, Team Cherry unveiled a new trailer during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, showcasing fresh gameplay footage and confirming the game's availability on Game Pass upon launch.
Although the game was initially expected to release in 2023, Team Cherry's Matthew Griffin announced a delay in May 2023, stating, "We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."
Even after more than five years, the Hollow Knight community remains vibrant and dedicated, actively seeking any updates on Silksong. However, following the delay announcement, little concrete information has been shared, except that the developers continue to work diligently on the project.
