No Snooze? You Lose! SF6 Tournament “Sleep Fighter” Requires You to Rest
A unique Street Fighter 6 tournament in Japan, dubbed "Sleep Fighter," prioritizes player rest. This article details the tournament's innovative sleep-focused rules and participating players.
Japan's "Sleep Fighter" SF6 Tournament: Prioritizing Sleep for Victory
This Capcom-backed tournament, organized by SS Pharmaceuticals to promote their sleep aid Drewell, introduces a groundbreaking concept: sleep points directly impact gameplay.
Sleep Points: A New Metric in Esports Competition
The Sleep Fighter tournament is a team-based competition (three players per team). Teams earn points through match wins (best-of-three format) and "Sleep Points." In the week before the tournament, each team member must log at least six hours of sleep nightly. Teams failing to reach a cumulative 126 hours will face a five-point penalty for each deficient hour. The team with the most total sleep hours gains the advantage of choosing match conditions.
Promoting Sleep Wellness in Esports
SS Pharmaceuticals aims to highlight the importance of sleep for peak performance with their "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First" campaign. The Sleep Fighter tournament is reportedly the first esports event to penalize insufficient sleep.
The tournament takes place on August 31st at Ryogoku KFC Hall Tokyo, with limited in-person attendance (100 lottery winners). Live streaming will be available on YouTube and Twitch; broadcast details will be announced on the official website and Twitter (X) account.
Top Players Compete for Glory (and Sleep)
The event features a roster of prominent professional players and streamers, including two-time EVO champion "Itazan" Itabashi Zangief and top SF player Dogura, among others. This tournament promises a unique blend of competitive gaming and a focus on sleep wellness.
