A surprising cinematic venture is on the horizon: a live-action Toys "R" Us film is in development.

Per Variety, Story Kitchen — the production house behind recent video game film adaptations, including the Sonic the Hedgehog series — aims to craft a vibrant, fast-paced tale that channels the timeless allure of the Toys 'R' Us brand, a staple in the toy industry for over seven decades.

“Toys 'R' Us resonates deeply as a cultural icon, sparking joy across generations,” said Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg. “As '80s kids who viewed Toys 'R' Us as a wonderland, we’re thrilled to collaborate on a movie that embodies the adventure, creativity, and nostalgia tied to the brand.”

The film draws inspiration from Night at the Museum, Back to the Future, and Big, alongside toy-centric blockbusters like Barbie. While casting details remain under wraps, the project will be produced by Story Kitchen’s Johnson, Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Elena Sandoval, joined by Kim Miller Olko of Toys "R" Us Studios.

“As the debut film for Toys "R" Us, this project is a chance to bring our brand’s magic to life on the big screen,” said Miller Olko, president of Toys "R" Us Studios. “This story will ignite imagination, adventure, and the boundless joy that defines Toys "R" Us, captivating audiences of all ages.”

Last year, Story Kitchen revealed plans for a film adaptation of Square Enix’s Just Cause, directed by Blue Beetle’s Ángel Manuel Soto. The studio is also working on adaptations of Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs.
