Sony Cutting PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus Next Year
Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles.
This shift, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, means PS4 games will only occasionally be included in the monthly offerings and Games Catalog. Existing downloads remain unaffected, and Games Catalog titles will remain accessible until their scheduled removal.
Sony emphasizes its commitment to evolving PlayStation Plus, retaining benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company cites a player shift towards PS5 as the primary reason for this change, noting increased PS5 title redemption and usage.

With the PS4's launch in 2013 and the PS5's in 2020, Sony acknowledges the console's longevity and the player base's transition to the newer system. The future of PS4 games within the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog (currently featuring PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles) remains unconfirmed, with further announcements expected closer to the date.
