South Park Delays New Episode to Next Week Amid Controversy

by Liam Dec 24,2025

South Park will not air a new episode this week as Season 27 of the Comedy Central series maintains its bi-weekly pattern of satirical critiques aimed at the Trump administration.

While previous seasons of South Park have adhered to a weekly release schedule, viewers must now endure another week without a new installment as the show settles into its new rhythm. Instead, Comedy Central is marking the beloved animated series' anniversary today, August 13, by declaring it South Park Day (via THR).

The celebration will feature a programming lineup packed with fan-favorite episodes such as "Casa Bonita," "Fishsticks," and "Make Love, Not Warcraft," alongside interviews with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and exclusive behind-the-scenes content.

In short, audiences will need to wait until next week for the still-untitled third episode of South Park Season 27. Fans have been eagerly anticipating new content since the season premiere, "Sermon on the Mount," in which Parker and Stone delivered pointed critiques of Donald Trump's policies, persona, and more. The July 23 premiere also featured Eric Cartman and other series regulars calling out Comedy Central's parent company, Paramount, after the studio faced backlash following its merger with Skydance and the controversial cancellation of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Season 27's second episode, "Got A Nut," then aired two weeks later, following an unexpected delay that also resulted in a skipped week. This latest installment continued the show's sharp political commentary, this time focusing on U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem (the latter of whom receives a new extended ending that animal lovers may find difficult to watch).

To say the least, South Park Season 27 has been both brutally honest and remarkably unrestrained, making the extended wait between episodes particularly challenging for dedicated fans. The current season is scheduled to run for 10 episodes, though it remains uncertain whether the bi-weekly release pattern will continue throughout its run.

Despite the longer intervals between new episodes, Season 27 has emerged as one of the most successful runs since the show's 1997 debut. "Sermon on the Mount" made television history by drawing 6 million viewers across Paramount's platforms at premiere, while live viewership for "Got A Nut" saw an additional 25 percent increase.

We'll have to wait to discover what surprises Parker and Stone have planned for South Park Season 27 Episode 3. In the meantime, you can explore the creators' insights on "Sermon on the Mount" from their appearance at San Diego Comic-Con last month. You can also learn about their recent $1.5 billion agreement with Paramount, which commits the duo to producing 50 new South Park episodes over the next five years.
