Top Spring 2025 Anime Recommendations

I've highlighted The Apothecary Diaries, Once Upon A Witch’s Death, The Beginning After The End, To Be Hero X, and WITCH WATCH in my roundup of Spring 2025 anime dubs coming to Crunchyroll. However, there are several other gems from the list above that deserve your attention.

Devil May Cry is Netflix's latest venture into animated video game adaptations. With a trailer featuring Limp Bizkit and a new Evanescence track, it's clear the creators understand the tone they're aiming for. Netflix has had a mixed track record with anime and game IPs, but with Adi Shankar, the mind behind Castlevania and Guardians of Justice, and Studio Mir, known for Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra, at the helm, this series promises to be a thrilling ride. Even if you're not familiar with the Devil May Cry universe, fans of anime like Trigun will enjoy the adventures of the edgy protagonist, Dante.

In Moonrise, the moon is on a quest for independence, a concept that could have been a sequel to 2021's Moonfall. This original net animation (ONA) boasts impressive talent, including animation by WIT Studio (Attack On Titan, Vinland Saga), character designs by Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), and direction by Masashi Koizuka (Attack On Titan Seasons 2 & 3). Despite the limited information available, the secrecy suggests a potentially groundbreaking story.

Lastly, YAIBA: Samurai Legends might be unfamiliar to those outside Japan or younger audiences, but it's a beloved series since its manga debut in the late 1980s. Created by Gosho Aoyama, known for Case Closed, this samurai comedy follows Yaiba Kurogane in his battle against a formidable foe. With WIT Studio animating and Aoyama directly involved in production, this adaptation promises to blend the humor and action of early Dragon Ball with the detective flair of Detective Conan, complete with historical Japanese cameos.
