Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation

Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited fan speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The official announcement on the Star Wars Celebration Instagram account follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 appearance, where she revealed her involvement in a new Star Wars film.

The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, leaving Isaac's stance on future Star Wars projects somewhat ambiguous. While initially expressing reluctance, stating in 2020 that he'd only return for "another house or something," he later shifted his position, telling Variety in 2022 that he was "open to anything."

Isaac's past criticisms of Disney, particularly regarding the rejection of a romantic storyline between Poe and Finn (John Boyega's character), haven't dampened the excitement. Boyega himself, despite previous negative comments about his experience with the franchise, has also expressed openness to future roles.

This renewed speculation centers around the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, focusing on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has already voiced her support for Boyega's return, and with Poe completing the Sequel Trilogy's main trio, his inclusion seems plausible.

While Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer some clues, fans face a considerable wait for definitive answers. Multiple Star Wars films have faced repeated delays, and the Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, currently has a tentative release date of December 17, 2027, at the earliest.
