Zynga Announces Shutdown of Star Wars Hunters Nine Months After Launch

Publisher Zynga has revealed plans to discontinue Star Wars Hunters entirely mere months after its debut, with the promised PC version on Steam officially canceled.

The free-to-play team battle arena game developed by NaturalMotion launched on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices in June 2024. IGN's Star Wars: Hunters review scored it a respectable 7/10, noting: "Star Wars: Hunters delivers enjoyable PvP battles reminiscent of a Death Star celebration - impressive momentarily, but not necessarily a long-term destination."

Zynga stated that after thorough evaluation, Star Wars: Hunters will receive its final content update on April 15, with servers remaining operational until October 1, 2025.

"While disappointing, this decision wasn't made lightly," Zynga's announcement continued. "We deeply appreciate our players' passion and commitment, and will maintain transparency throughout this transition period."

Sunset Timeline Details:

  • March 25: Season 5 extended by three weeks
  • April 15: Final free content update launches
  • October 1: Servers permanently deactivated

The termination notice makes no mention of the previously announced PC version, whose Steam page now carries an "unavailable" notice. This marks a significant pivot for Zynga, known primarily for mobile titles like FarmVille, which had planned Star Wars: Hunters as its inaugural PC release.

Star Wars gaming fans can still anticipate forthcoming projects including Respawn Entertainment's next Jedi installment and Bit Reactor's tactical game reveal slated for Star Wars Celebration 2025.
