"Star Wars: KOTOR Remake Still in Development, Developer Confirms"

by Lucy May 12,2025

Saber Interactive has reaffirmed its commitment to all previously announced projects, despite the ongoing silence surrounding major titles like the eagerly anticipated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake. In the wake of the recent announcement of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, Saber's Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, took to Twitter to reassure fans that all announced games remain in active development.

"Saber Interactive stands as one of the largest independent developers globally," Willits stated. "Our portfolio spans numerous games across a variety of genres. Rest assured, everything we've announced is still being worked on. We'll share updates on our upcoming titles as soon as we have exciting news to reveal."

The most talked-about project in Willits' statement is undoubtedly the KOTOR remake, a project that has become one of the most elusive in the gaming industry. Initially announced in 2021, the long-awaited remake has undergone multiple developer changes, seemingly halted and restarted development, and after four years, has yet to see the light of day.

In April 2024, Saber Interactive's CEO, Matthew Karch, confirmed that the KOTOR project was taken with them during their split from Embracer Group and remains in active development. "It's clear and it's obvious that we're working on this," Karch stated at the time. "It's been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we're dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations."

Willits' recent statement, nearly a year after Karch's comments, reaffirms the ongoing development of the KOTOR remake. However, fans are still left without any new visuals or updates beyond the initial announcement video.

In addition to the KOTOR remake, Saber Interactive is also working on several other titles, including John Carpenter's Toxic Commando and Jurassic Park Survival, both slated for release in 2025, though specific dates have yet to be announced. The studio is also developing a new Turok game and an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender project.

With the recent addition of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 to their lineup, Saber Interactive continues to expand its diverse portfolio. For more details on what to expect from Space Marine 3, including potential chapters and enemy factions, be sure to check out IGN's comprehensive article.
