Star Wars: KOTOR Remake Canceled: Rumors Circulate

The highly anticipated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR) Remake was first revealed to eager fans in September 2021. However, since that initial announcement, the project has been shrouded in mystery, with only whispers and rumors hinting at its progress. Now, it appears that instead of the much-anticipated release, fans might be facing some disheartening news. This information comes from Alex Smith, the former head of Bend Studio and a key figure behind the iconic Syphon Filter series.

Taking to his X account, Smith made a bold claim that the development of the SW: KotOR Remake has been completely stopped. This contradicts statements made by Saber Interactive earlier in 2024, where they insisted that the project was still in development. According to Smith, some team members have been shifted to other projects, while others have unfortunately been laid off. If these claims hold any truth, it could spell the end for fans who have been eagerly awaiting the revival of this beloved RPG.

It's important to consider the credibility of Smith's claims. He has a track record of sharing accurate insider information, such as his hints about an upcoming announcement from Housemarque, which indeed came to fruition. However, his predictions on release dates for Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei were off the mark, suggesting that his statements should be approached with a degree of caution.

As of now, neither Saber Interactive nor Aspyr, the companies involved in the project, have issued any official statements to confirm or refute Smith's assertions. This leaves fans in a state of uncertainty about the future of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake.
