Star Wars Movie From Deadpool & Wolverine Director Could Star Ryan Gosling

by Hannah Mar 28,2025

Exciting news for fans of the galaxy far, far away: Shawn Levy, the director behind *Deadpool & Wolverine*, is reportedly in talks to bring Ryan Gosling into the *Star Wars* universe. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy's *Star Wars* project, which he's been developing since 2022, has entered negotiations with the acclaimed actor to star in the upcoming film. The script, penned by Jonathan Tropper, who previously collaborated with Levy on *This Is Where I Leave You* and *The Adam Project*, has been in the works since last year.

While the details of the film remain under wraps, it's known that it won't be connected to the Skywalker Saga and is intended to be a standalone movie, not part of a trilogy. The involvement of Ryan Gosling has seemingly accelerated the project, with production potentially starting in the fall if Gosling officially signs on. This development has pushed back Levy's plans for a boy band movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

*Star Wars* is currently navigating a transitional phase. Following the cancellation of *The Acolyte*, Disney Plus has recently concluded its latest series, *Skeleton Crew*. On the cinematic front, Dave Filoni's *The Mandalorian and Grogu* wrapped production in December and is slated for release on May 22, 2026. Additionally, a new trilogy centered around Daisy Ridley's Rey from the sequel trilogy is in the works.

As for Levy's *Star Wars* movie, no release date has been announced yet, but the potential involvement of Ryan Gosling suggests that fans might see this project come to life sooner rather than later.
