Star Wars Outlaws Gets More Bad Sales News

Star Wars Outlaws Underperforms, Outsold by Jedi: Survivor

Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws, the franchise's first open-world title, is significantly underperforming, falling short of sales projections and even being outsold by 2023's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, according to reports. This news follows a sharp drop in Ubisoft's stock price after the August 2024 launch.

Negative player reception, particularly concerning the combat and stealth mechanics, contributed to the game's underwhelming sales. While initial reviews were positive, subsequent updates addressing player concerns failed to significantly boost sales. Ubisoft acknowledged the game's underperformance in September.

Further compounding the issue, a recent report by VGC and industry journalist Christopher Dring indicates that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a critically acclaimed single-player title, has surpassed Star Wars Outlaws in sales figures, though specific numbers remain undisclosed. In Europe, Star Wars Outlaws only managed a 47th place ranking in 2024's best-selling games.

Several factors likely contributed to Jedi: Survivor's success. As a sequel to the popular Fallen Order, it benefited from established brand recognition and positive critical reception upon its April 2023 release. A later PS4 and Xbox One update further fueled interest.

Conversely, Outlaws has struggled to gain traction, despite ongoing updates and DLC releases. The November release of "Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card," featuring Lando Calrissian, and the upcoming Spring 2025 release of "Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate's Fortune" (featuring Hondo Ohnaka), aim to revitalize the game's appeal. However, whether these additions will be enough to significantly improve its performance remains uncertain.
