Supposed Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement Date Revealed by Leaker

Nintendo Switch 2: Official Reveal Expected on January 16th

A highly credible leaker claims the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially unveiled on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This early 2025 announcement strongly suggests a first-half 2025 release.

The Switch 2's existence has been an open secret for some time. Reports indicate mass production began around September or October 2024, corroborated by numerous hardware leaks. Nintendo itself previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025.

NateTheHate, a reputable leaker, confirmed the January 16th date on his podcast, citing anonymous sources. This aligns with Nintendo's history of making major announcements on Thursdays – mirroring the original Switch reveal in 2016. The Verge's Tom Warren independently corroborated this information.

Extensive Leaks Precede Official Announcement

While a pre-announcement teaser on social media, similar to the 2017 Switch announcement, remains a possibility, the sheer volume of leaks already circulating may minimize the element of surprise. The extensive unofficial information, including Nintendo's rare acknowledgement of a Switch 2 replica, highlights the anticipation surrounding the console.

Rumors suggest the Switch 2 will be slightly larger than the Switch OLED model (approximately 270 x 116 x 14mm), featuring an 8-inch LCD screen and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons. The right Joy-Con may include an additional "C" button, possibly related to a rumored mouse-like pointer function.

Launch Titles Remain Unclear

Unlike the hardware specifics, the Switch 2's launch game lineup remains shrouded in mystery. While titles like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario are confirmed, neither is anticipated as a day-one release, assuming a first-half 2025 launch. Nintendo will likely leverage one or more high-profile first-party titles to drive initial sales.
