FromSoftware Reveals Cute New Hub Character for Switch 2 Exclusive The Duskbloods

A Surprising Nintendo-Inspired Design Choice

FromSoftware has unveiled additional details about its upcoming Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods. The collaboration with Nintendo appears to have influenced not only the game's style but also led to an unexpected design twist for the hub area guardian – introducing an unusually adorable character.

Meet Your New Winged Companion

The Switch 2 Direct trailer concluded with a curious shot of a glyph-covered winged rat gazing at viewers. According to director Hidetaka Miyazaki, this creature serves as the game's central hub companion.

"This character fulfills a similar role to Dark Souls' firekeepers," Miyazaki explained in a Nintendo interview. "They'll remain in the hub, offering players guidance throughout their journey."

The director added with amusement: "We decided to try something different – something distinctly Nintendo-flavored. Though I should mention this 'cute' character is actually an elderly gentleman."

Breaking From Tradition

FromSoftware's hubs have historically featured solemn figures like Melina or the Doll from Bloodborne. This marks the studio's first venture into creating an overtly charming hub guardian.

The winged rat's exact role remains mysterious – particularly intriguing given The Duskbloods' PvPvE format. Miyazaki teased that the team has implemented "numerous fresh concepts," promising surprises when the game launches on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
