TennoCon 2024 Reveals Warframe: 1999 Details

by Bella May 05,2025

This year's ninth TennoCon was nothing short of spectacular, with some incredible reveals that have left the Warframe community buzzing. The upcoming update, Warframe: 1999, is shaping up to be one of the most thrilling additions to the series yet.

Before diving into the main event, players will be treated to a prologue quest in August 2024 called The Lotus Eaters. This quest reunites us with one of Warframe’s most iconic characters and follows the storyline of Whispers in the Walls, setting the stage for the world of 1999. This update will also introduce Sevagoth Prime along with their exclusive weapons. To experience Warframe: 1999 when it launches in Winter 2024, players must complete all story content up to and including The Lotus Eaters.

Set in the titular year, Warframe: 1999 takes place on an alternate Earth where Y2K is a deadly virus threatening to destroy everything. The action unfolds in the city of Höllvania, a corrupted 90s wonderland overrun by Techrot. Players can navigate this environment using the new Atomicycles, which offer bullet jumps, drifts, and can even be used as makeshift explosives. Leading the charge are the six heroes of the Hex, each donning a Protoframe that showcases the human within. Arthur, the leader, wields Excalibur, while teammates like Aoi with Mag and Quincy in the newly introduced CYTE-09 join the fray. The CYTE-09 frame will also be available in the Origin system, complete with a stylish beret.

The Hex team comes to life with the voices of renowned actors such as Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and the rising star Amelia Tyler, known for her work in Baldur's Gate 3. To deepen the connection with these characters, players can interact with them through instant messaging, adding a nostalgic 1999 touch. Play your cards right, and you might even have someone to kiss as the new year rolls in.

Embracing the 90s theme, players will encounter the diabolical 90s boy band On-lyne, led by Zeke, voiced by Nick Apostolides, who also voices Leon Kennedy. This band has been corrupted by the Technocyte Coda, turning them into infected foes. Despite their menacing transformation, their song "Party of Your Lifetime" remains catchy and is now available on all major streaming platforms.

One of the most exciting aspects of this update is the enhancement to the fashion systems, often considered the true endgame of Warframe. Players will now have the ability to switch between two fashion frame loadouts during battle. The introduction of Gemini Skins allows players to bring Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin system. While this feature is limited to frames with these skins, such as Excalibur, each skin comes with fully-voiced lines during combat and casual conversations when the operator is present, making the most of the stellar voice cast and adding a personal touch to the characters.

Anime Arthur and Aoi

In addition to the main announcements, Digital Extremes is collaborating with animation studio THE LINE to produce an anime short related to Warframe: 1999, set to launch later this year. Starting today, players can also acquire the stunning high-fidelity Heirloom skin for Ember, with a Rhino skin following in early 2025.

With Warframe: 1999 set to release in Winter 2024, there's plenty to catch up on and look forward to. Make sure to download Warframe now from the App Store to stay ahead of the game.
